Description
A print on archival paper: Innova Fibaprint Matt from my original watercolour painting on paper: ‘choices’
Printed area is: 30m x 32cm. Total paper size: 40cm x 42cm.
This is my response to Adoption Awareness month: November 2018.
I began to make art about my experiences as a Chinese adoptee in 2014. My thoughts and feelings about adoption evolve with each passing year.
Frustration and anger over things I had no control over began to soften after connecting with transracial adoptees from around the globe. I began to understand and found words to articulate my feelings.
This image is about the life choices I had and have. I have had many more opportunities and choices than my birth mother and my adoptive parents. I have been incredibly blessed in this regard.
The image of Chinese tea cups represent my life choices. A couple of them are broken but they are mended with so much love and care (kintsugi is the technique) that it makes them so much more beautiful.
The number 9 signifies longevity in Chinese culture.
